FROM RUNWAY TO RAIL – WOOLWORTHS EMPOWERS THE FUTURE OF SA FASHION

SA Fashion Week (SAFW) opened last night to a flurry of excitement, showcasing some of the most innovative and cutting-edge designs the South African fashion industry has to offer. Woolworths launched their 2017 ‘StyleBySA’ seasonal campaign by championing home-grown talent, featuring a capsule collection by eight local designers who are taking the fashion scene by storm, namely Rich Mnisi, Thebe Magugu, AKJP, Pichulik, Maria McCloy, Sol-Sol, Selfi and Young & Lazy.   From modern streetwear, to footwear and accessories inspired by the continent, the debut collaboration was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. In a first for SAFW, the collection was available online straight from the runway, resulting in a frenzy of online sales throughout the evening.   The significant partnership between Woolworths and SAFW has prioritised fast-tracking South Africa fashion from the runway to the rails. Charmaine Huet, Woolworths’ Group Director of Marketing and Sustainability, says, “As a passionately South African retailer we want to boost the visibility and viability of local designers. The quality of the work on show last night, and the response to it, is compelling proof of the incredible local talent the South African fashion industry has on offer.’’ Having pioneered the concept of local design collaborations with their Stoned Cherrie, Craig Native and Maya Prass collections over a decade ago, it’s another step forward for the passionately local retailer.   The StyleBySA capsule collection will be available exclusively online at www.woolworths.co.za while stocks last this week. The collection launches in selected Woolworths stores (Canal Walk Shopping Centre, Cape Town; Sandton City Shopping Centre, Johannesburg; Mall of Africa, Midrand; Menlyn Mall, Pretoria; Gateway Theatre...

COSMOPOLITAN SOUTH AFRICA’S WORLD EXCLUSIVE WITH BLAC CHYNA

Cosmopolitan South Africa has revealed that their latest world exclusive cover shoot is with reality TV royalty, Blac Chyna.   In the exclusive interview, Chyna dishes on her relationship with Rob, their highly publicized struggles, and her determination to make it work. She also shares her feelings about becoming a part of the Kardashian family, and co-parenting with Tyga (now dating Rob’s half-sister, Kylie Jenner). Fashion Director Bev Nates and Art Director Juan Geel once again made the trip to LA, where they partnered with renowned photographer John Tsiavis to pull off the shoot. Of the “At home with Blac Chyna” theme, Acting Editor Kerrie Simon-Lawrence says, “Blac Chyna is such a mysterious character, and everyone really does want to know more about her. While she’s a businesswoman and has been for a long time, her life has really been plastered all over the media ever since she first got together with Rob Kardashian. So we wanted to create an intimate-feeling shoot, where we got to share with readers the ‘real’ Blac Chyna.” The shoot has also been a great opportunity for South African designers, with the Cosmo team commissioning from local labels for the roll-out. “We took items from Josh Myburgh, Romanda de Bastos, Shana Morland, and Emelia Nagel. On the cover, she wears a divine leotard by Sheila-Madge,” says Kerrie. In an exciting twist, Cosmo and Sheila-Madge will be giving away the cover look via a social media competition. Commenting on interviewing the star in LA, Kerrie says: “We loved working with Blac Chyna on this cover and interview. She’s fresh and has a devil-may-care attitude that...

A Reason To Visit Sexpo SA This Weekend: Airvolution Body Art

Last night my sister and I came across a really cool stall at the Sexpo SA, not only were the people there looking super cool and sexy because of their tattoos but there were really cool visuals.   We went there and at first glance we thought someone was getting a tattoo but there was no needle involved, they were using an airbrush! After speaking to these guys we found out they do air rush tattoos- They make whatever you want look like a real tattoo, advantage of this, it’s not permanent! They even do full body painting making it look like you’re wearing something tight when you’re actually naked. THE REVOLUTION IN SOCIAL MEDIA – HOW IS IT AFFECTING US?

THE REVOLUTION IN SOCIAL MEDIA – HOW IS IT AFFECTING US?

Social media has been the child of internet which is now sitting on its shoulders. Trying to, rise even higher. It is a tool came in the hands of people who were long waiting to communicate across the globe anxiously. In fact, it has taken the place of eyes, ears and tongue of society; simply, a medium of expression effective across the globe. Social media has taken over almost everything sweepingly silently overnight. As conversation connects community, the social media has become the channel of communication. Taking fast leaps every day and every night. Whether there are social networks, forums, podcast, blogging or even micro blogging, it is all about sharing ideas, cooperating and collaborating to create art, thinking and commerce, finding people, friends and lovers. This is the reason why it is spreading quickly and effortlessly. It has also provided ‘space’ to ‘digg’ and ‘face’ to ‘flick’ and ‘linked in’ to ‘tweet’ everyone to each other. Approximately, 100 million worldwide viewers join YouTube every day, more than 350 million face Facebook, almost 10 billion tweets per year and a titanic growth of other channels makes it fastest growing thing on the earth. Social media has affected many things across the globe. Things such as work, politics, communications patterns, the way people get and share information about health, civic life, news consumption, communities, teenage life, parenting, dating and even people’s psychology. Social media is in fact the new backbone of business community. It is the greatest tool to market your business strategy and product throughout the history of mankind. It has the capacity to promote your business with...
