Honoring Legends- Andrew Mlangeni
TUESDAY June 6, was a picture of all things bright and beautiful at Centurion Country Club. We were graced by South Africa’s young citizens and Golf enthusiasts from GA Rankuwa. The day ended as cheerful as it started with golf trainees being awarded their certificates. It is out of such little things that greater things are born. The June and Andrew Mlangeni Foundation is grateful to the Department of Sports and Recreation for bolstering the need for development of young golfers through the Golf Development Programme.
Wednesday June 7, was yet another day of the golfing community, companies, the department and stakeholders coming together to rise to the occasion of raising the good values of the sport as well as showing their support to the work of the Foundation. It was equally a cheerful day. Today, we turn attention to acknowledge the talents of sportspeople through the Andrew Mlangeni Green Jacket. Congratulations to all recipients.
While these cheerful moments are ours to cherish, we cannot forget the scourge of abductions, rapes, killings and the cruel deeds of perpetrators who continue to threaten, hurt, maim, rape and tear families by terrorising the lives of women and children within our communities.
Death is stalking our homes, work places, places of leisure, shopping centres and centres of learning without an end. People behind these cruelties know that they live in a constitutional democracy where the right to live is one for us all. But what do these monsters do? They continue to use the fruits of our democracy, that grants the right of life to us all, to end the lives of others. They continue to do so, abusing the protection of our laws guaranteeing the right to life for themselves while ending their lives of others.
For too long has our country been subjected to such terror. The cheer and young talents that are being nurtured by our programme to make South Africa an active and winning nation is being undermined by criminals and rapists. Rape is the worst form of invasion for women and children to experience.
It is time our laws responded accordingly to end this cruelty. The picture of the wonderful life we see when our sportspeople enter fields of play should equally remain as beautifully experienced off the field at the end of each game we play. This calls upon our sportspeople to add their voices and weight in the fight. Not only should we wage this war for the protection, safety and care of the most vulnerable in our society but also to uphold the dignity and humanity of dignity women and children.
Our freedom was never meant to be a plaything of criminals. Something drastic must be done. And I count on the Government to lead the fight in defence of our beloved citizens who have sacrificed so much for this country to be free. Failure to put an end to the reign of terror being waged by criminals will render our freedom to be as vain as pearls to swine. May the good deeds of women and men deliver this country from this shameless evil being meted on our women and children.
