PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN’ AGAINST ABUSE AT SPECIAL PRE-SCREENING OF DIS EK, ANNA AT SELECT STER-KINEKOR CINEMAS
The much anticipated South African film Dis ek, Anna, directed by Sara Blecher, will release at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas on Friday, 23 October. Based on the best-selling novels “Dis ek, Anna” and “Die Staat teen Anna Bruwer”, this South African production puts a spotlight on an issue that too many young girls, women and families can relate to.To highlight this issue, Ster-Kinekor is hosting a special pre-screening of the film at select cinemas on Thursday 15 October, in conjunction with the Put Your Foot Down (Sit Jou Voet Neer) Foundation. Established by Kara van der Merwe – one of the actresses in the film – the foundation has spurred social media support from many South Africans, who have collectively committed to taking a stand against child abuse.
Audiences attending the pre-screenings at the following cinemas will also have the opportunity to lend their ‘feet’ to this important cause: Ster-Kinekor Cradlestone Mall, East Rand Mall, The Grove Mall, Kolonnade, Mooirivier Mall, Garden Route Mall and Tygervalley. You can also take a stand against child abuse by taking a creative photo of your feet using theDis Ek App and sharing it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter; or SMS a donation to 33445, using the hashtag#putyourfootdown or #sitjouvoetneer.
In addition, special bins will be placed in each of these cinemas’ foyers. Movie goers are encouraged to bring a range of toiletries – from toothpaste, soap, body lotion, facecloths and shampoo to nappies, any baby products and sanitary protection – with them to the pre-screening. All the items placed in the specially-marked bins on Thursday evening will be donated to Childline (08000 55 555) to assist them in their daily work. “As a proudly South African company and the country’s largest cinema exhibitor, Ster-Kinekor ensures that quality local content is accessible to and appreciated by South African movie goers via our big screens. We are committed to supporting our country’s local film industry and giving South African directors, producers and actors a strong platform to share great stories that our audiences can relate to,” says Doug Place, Marketing Executive of Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
Dis ek, Anna explores pertinent societal issues such as child molestation, and sexual and domestic abuse through the lives of a young family. Speaking about the film, director Sara Bletcher shares: “This film tackles issues that are incredibly important. We live in a country where people often silence abuse, we don’t let people talk about abuse and the problem with that is, in doing that, we are in fact protecting the perpetrators.”
Selected as the opening film at the 2015 Durban International Film Festival in July, the film has also scooped Best Film, Best Director (Sara Blecher) and Best Actor (Morné Visser) at the kykNet Silwerskermfees held in August.
Dis ek, Anna stars Charlenè Brouwer (Vrou Soek Boer, Erfsondes, Binnelanders) in the title role, with Marius Weyers (Faan se Trein, Die Wonderwerker), Nicola Hanekom (Hollywood in My Huis, Faan se Trein), Izel Bezuidenhout (Agent 2000), Morné Visser (Long Walk to Freedom, Skoonheid), Eduan van Jaarsveldt (Fanie Fourie’s Lobola, Long Walk to Freedom) and Drikus Volschenk (Long Walk to Freedom, Skoonheid). Other cast members include Dawid Minnaar, Elize Cawood, Hykie Berg, Kara van der Merwe and Fezile Mpela.
Bookings are now open for the pre-screening of Dis ek, Anna on 15 October for the 8pm show, at the following Ster-Kinekor cinemas: Cradlestone Mall and East Rand Mall in Johannesburg, The Grove Mall and Kolonnade in Pretoria, Mooirivier in Potchefstroom, Garden Route Mall in George, and Tygervalley Mall in Cape Town.
