THE WALK: the IMAX 3D Experience® releases onto Ster-Kinekor’s five IMAX® 3D screens around the country on Friday, 09 October, a week before its national release at Ster-Kinekor cinemas. This high-wire, gripping adventure drama, based on a true story, is one film that should be experienced in the immersive IMAX theatre, to appreciate the great heights one man was prepared to scale, to follow his dream.
The Walk is the true story of a young dreamer. French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, together with a band of unlikely recruits, achieved the impossible: an illegal high-wire walk across the immense void between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre on 07 August, 1974. “People ask me, why do you risk death? For me, this is life,” utters Philippe Petit(Joseph Gordon-Levitt) in the film.
With little more than nerve and blind ambition, Petit and his ragtag crew overcome daunting physical obstacles, betrayals, countless close calls and overwhelming odds to beat the system and execute their mad plan. The feat they accomplished had never been done before – and it will never be repeated.
The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Flight), who collaborates with cinematographer Dariusz Wolski (Pirates of the Caribbean). It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Philippe Petit, with Ben Kingsley, Charlotte le Bon, James Badge Dale and Ben Schwart.
The IMAX release of THE WALK has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of An IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customised theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie – and on the mountain!

The high-altitude thriller, THE WALK, makes its mark on the IMAX® 3D screens at Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban, The Grove in Pretoria, Cape Gate in Cape Town, Baywest Mall in Port Elizabeth and the recently opened IMAX® theatre at Ster-Kinekor Cradlestone Mall in Krugersdorp, on Friday, 09 October. The film releases at all Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationally in 2D and 3D on Friday, 16 October. Bookings are now open. The running time of the film is 2hr 3mins.
